Title: Structural Steel Fabrication Estimator

SALARY RANGE:
$130-170k/year (based on experience)
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Senior-level Structural Steel Estimator is the primary member of the estimating team who has overall responsibility for the creation of estimates and generating business development opportunities for Greenberry Industrial. This role is responsible for the development and delivery of complete construction estimates for a variety of project types, as listed below:
- Structural (Fabrication/Installation)
- Heavy Plate Fabrication
- Commercial Steel Fabrication
- Module Fab
- Process Equipment Skids and Systems
- Vessels (API 650, ASME, and Pressure Vessel)
This role will provide expertise and work with company leadership for all estimating efforts, ensuring that projects align with company objectives and goals for performance. The position proactively develops new business opportunities and relationships with current and potential customers. Considerable interfacing with clients and business development support efforts is required. Specific position responsibilities include:
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Oversee the estimating process, including solicitation of bids from vendors and subcontractors; tracking, follow-up, and reporting on multiple estimates.
- Review project plans and specifications and coordinate with the team to confirm the complete scope.
- Ensure the timely completion of estimates within tight deadlines and assigned budgets, including timely reviews with senior management.
- Prepare conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
- Review general conditions, schedules, and scopes of work.
- Ensure the flow of project information is maintained and documented.
- Review and/or manage the review and scoping of specialty contractor bids; analyze alternate means and methods to determine the most economical alternative.
- Build effective relationships with customers, design teams, specialty contractors, suppliers, and user groups that reflect and support company core values and meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Be comfortable selling projects and services as well as communicating with customers.
- Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
- Effectively supervise staff in the day-to-day administration of a job, or supervise two or more estimators, site leads, superintendents, and/or engineers.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed above, and other duties may be assigned.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
Operates from established procedures under general direction. Decisions are made within prescribed operating guidelines and policy constraints. Informally, make recommendations concerning long-range planning. The job encounters new and varied work situations, involving a high degree of complexity in which errors could affect profitability. Contacts are normally made with others inside and outside the company, including other departments; project superintendents and project managers; NAES corporate personnel; immediate associates, customers, and own supervisor. Contacts are normally made on one's initiative requiring explanation, discussion, interpretation, or approvals.
SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Capable with BIM Model Software (Solidworks, Navisworks, Compress, Strumis, etc.).
- Tactful with a professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with managers, employees, vendors, and others.
- Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills. Strong organizational, record-keeping, and follow-up skills.
- Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
- Ability to understand and follow standard operating policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and appearance.
- Some travel will be required.
- Knowledge of the craft jurisdiction required.
- Experience in coordinating multiple activities and tasks in multiple disciplines required.
- Supervisory skills desired.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, detailing, construction management, or similar, or equivalent technical training, knowledge, and experience desired.
- Minimum of ten years of work experience in the heavy industrial industry preferred.
- Flexible work hours may be considered.
- Some extended hours, travel, and overnight stays will be required.
Physical Demands:
Employee must be in good physical condition: possess good manual dexterity; be able to sit, stand, kneel, and squat; be able to lift at least 50 lbs.; and be able to hear, speak, and see within normal ranges (use of corrective devices is allowed). Must be able to wear all required PPE.
Working Conditions:
Normally works on job sites where work is performed in a variety of environments, i.e., may be outside or in a manufacturing environment. Will be exposed to weather, dirt/dust, loud noise, and will be required to wear personal protective equipment.
