Quality Control Manager - Fabrication

 

Reports To: Director, Quality & Process Operations

Location: Varies

Travel: 25%

 

Method of Supervision:

  • Management – Collaborate with quality and fabrication team to provide vision for process control. Give team the big picture and communicate individual responsibilities with clear direction and freedom to accomplish their tasks within procedures.
  • Leadership - Lead by example. Get to know each team members strengths and weaknesses to build a strong balanced team.
  • Coaching - Have an open door policy to mentor for those that need help and challenge each team member to prepare them for success.

 

Supervisory Responsibility: 10+ Employees

 

Job Summary

  • Ensures quality program compliance, trains personnel, resolves issues associated with implementation for company management, with an emphasis on practical application of codes to achieve cost effective compliance with design and customer requirements.
  • Ensures that project specific quality requirements from the prime contract, internal requirements, and external requirements are identified and appropriately assigned.
  • Advances strategies to integrate, manage and maintain quality and process operational controls for shop fabrication activities.
  • Mitigates risk by sponsoring a quality conscious work environment supported by core competencies and rigorous process controls.
  • Maintain company’s reputation by upholding and energizing quality conscious culture, continually improving our quality communication processes, facilitates quality ownership and empowerment.

 

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provides daily direction and leadership to shop QC personnel. Responsible for QC staffing levels and resource needs.
  2. Responsible for ensuring fabrication meets code requirements. Interfaces with customers and third party inspectors regarding quality expectations, reports, requirements and specifications.
  3. Responsible for maintaining designated quality program certifications including preparation for annual audits, necessary revisions and training of quality personal.
  4. Participates in planning with production leaders. Presents quality matters topics as part of daily huddle.
  5. Oversees daily completion of traveler(s) for all shop fabrication work. Tracks quality performance on shop projects, initiates NCRs, CARs and assists with closeout.
  6. Provide training to procedures, work instructions and code requirements. Assists with development of weld procedures & work instructions.
  7. Oversees qualification testing of welders and verifies qualifications prior to use. Verifies that welding operations are within WPS parameters. Provides input to/or maintains welder continuity log. Ensures weld consumable log is current at designated location.
  8. Reads and understand quality requirements from customer contracts. Assists with inspection and test plan (I&TP) development.
  9. Oversees receipt inspection, material control and final inspection activities. Responsible for the preparation of quality turnover documentation. Ensures completeness and accuracy of information provided.

 

Physical Demands:

Employee must be in good physical condition:  possess good manual dexterity; be able to sit, stand, kneel, and squat; be able to lift at least 25 lbs; and be able to hear, speak and see within normal ranges (use of corrective devices is allowed).

 

Working Conditions

Normally works in a typical office environment but may occasionally be required to visit job sites where work is done outside or in a manufacturing environment. May be exposed to weather, dirt/dust, loud noise, and may be required to wear personal protective equipment.
